Assistant Estimator

Gordon Prill, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Estimator. This person will be part of a team of in-house professionals including architects, mechanical and electrical engineers and construction project managers. Salary will be commensurate with background and project experience.

Position Description:
This position involves developing detailed conceptual estimates for multiple commercial, light industrial and high-tech manufacturing design-build projects as well as managing multiple “Plan & Spec” competitive bids for various types of commercial projects. Project sizes may vary from $100k up to $40M, with the majority of the projects ranging from $250k to $5M. For design-build projects, the position requires direct interface and collaboration with Gordon Prill in-house Architects, Engineers and Project Managers while developing detailed project requirements, detailed scope of work and project cost estimates for all disciplines of work. For competitive bid projects, this position requires competency in managing a competitive bid process from the initial bid walk, solicitation of subcontract bids, bid analysis / comparison and submission of final bid package or proposal. The candidate must be capable of reading and thoroughly understanding all plans and specifications, bid instructions and related Bid Documents.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed Estimates based on conceptual or schematic information
  • Competently manage competitive “Plan and Specification” Bids from ‘cradle to grave’
  • Possess good knowledge and understand of all Bid Documents including ITB, Bid Instructions, Plans, Specifications, Div. 1 requirements, General Condition & contract requirements, and be able to accurately interpret project requirements
  • Develop Rough Order Magnitude (ROM) Estimates based on conceptual or schematic information
  • Possess thorough knowledge and understanding of all CSI divisions
  • Ability to perform accurate and detailed quantity take-offs and pricing for all CSI divisions
  • Ability to perform take-off and pricing by detailed units, assemblies, systems or square footage
  • Able to manage multiple estimates and bids at the same time
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
  • Comfortable working either collaboratively or independently
  • Able to productively work with in-house Designers, Architects, Engineers and Project Managers Must be detail oriented, organized and have good communication skills both verbally and written
  • Able to issue Bid Documents for Subcontract bid solicitation and accurately disseminate and manage all bid information
  • Assist in development / maintenance / implementation of Timberline Estimating software

Minimum Requirements:
  • BS in Construction Management, Engineering, Economic, Finance or similar studies
  • No Experience necessary
  • Good working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to mange work to meet critical deadlines – this is a deadline-driven position
Additional Preferred Requirements:
  • Good attitude and driven individuals.
  • Practical project management or other construction field experience in commercial construction
  • Good working knowledge and experience with Microsoft
  • Emphasis toward mechanical and electrical systems a plus
